A Chameleon Tale

A Chameleon Tale, A Colorful Sensory Story written by Sarah Collins, MSOT, OTR/L and illustrated by Jackie Adrian is a beautiful book that provides the reader with an authors note and also takes the reader on a sensory experience with the characters.

I love the way that the author who is an occupational therapist explains the various facts about chameleons and also the sensory system throughout the book.

Through the chameleon’s journey, young readers are gently introduced to the idea that sensory feelings can change and that it’s okay to experience the world differently. The clear, simple language and soothing illustrations make the story especially accessible for children with sensory processing differences, anxiety, or communication challenges.

This book works beautifully as a read-aloud in classrooms, therapy sessions, or at home, opening the door to meaningful conversations about feelings, self-awareness, and coping strategies. It validates children’s experiences while promoting acceptance, empathy, and flexibility. A Chameleon Tale is a valuable resource for educators, therapists, and caregivers seeking a supportive, sensory-friendly story that helps children feel seen, understood, and empowered.
