Flap Your Hands
Flap Your Hands, A Celebration of Stimming is a beautifully illustrated and written book about four neurodivergent children who stim to help with self regulation.
Stimming can look different for many people. For example, one child can flap their hands while another child kicks his feet. I love this book because it celebrates stimming and provides the reader with a positive and affirming message of self-acceptance.
This book can be a wonderful book for both the classroom and home library. It can also be a helpful tool to help build awareness and teach other children about stimming and how it helps children regulate their emotions and sensory needs.
The author and illustrator Steve Asbell was diagnosed with Autism as an adult and draws a comic strip called Stimmy Kitty that shares childhood experiences through an autistic lens.
