My Wandering Dreaming Mind
My Wandering Dreaming Mind tells the story of Sadie, who feels like her thoughts are soaring into the clouds and she can’t bring them back down to earth. Sadie has a wonderful and creative imagination! However, when she is daydreaming she misses teachers instructions, forgets things, and loses things. She also has a harder time when playing with friends because her mind drifts off into the clouds.
How can Sadie’s mom help her with her inattentiveness? Sadie’s mom reassures her that “your mind is an amazing thing, Sadie. It has trouble paying attention sometimes. It’s not on purpose and yours doing the best you can.” Sadie’s mom replaces negative words with positive words. For example, instead of being “distracted”, she is “curious”. When others tell Sadie she “makes mistakes”, Sadie’s mom replaces that with “taking risks”. At the end of the book, Sadie feels confident about herself and wandering dreaming mind.
At the end of the book is a helpful note to parents and caregivers about ADHD and helping your children build a positive sense of self. This is another favorite from author Merriam Sarcia Saunders. I love picture books that give positive messages to neurodiverse children. It’s a beautiful book that should be included in both home and school libraries!
