A Walk in the Words
A Walk in the Words
When I saw this book, A Walk in the Words recommended by Trudy Ludwig, I knew I had to purchase it! A Walk in the Words written and illustrated by Hudson Talbott is a beautifully written and illustrated book about a child struggling to learn how to read. The book begins with his initial feelings about reading and his love of stories. As the words get longer and longer, the boy begins to feel more and more defeated.
He loves stories so much, how can he get through this and learn how to read faster like the other kids?
Do you have a child that has struggled with reading? As a parent of a child with dyslexia, this book really hit home for me. I love the way that the author eloquently writes what this feels like to be a struggling reader. When a reading disability is left untreated, this can leave a significant social-emotional mark on a child and limit their overall academic success.
At the end of the book, the author writes an author’s note about his own experience with reading. This book can be an inspiration for others who have reading disabilities and/or who are struggling to learn how to read.
