Interview with Author, SLP and Stuttering Expert, Lori Melnitsky
About Lori Melnitsky
I am excited to share this interview with my friend and colleague, Lori Melnitsky. I asked Lori to be on my podcast to share her extensive knowledge about stuttering. We talk specifically about the impact of the pandemic on stuttering, stuttering intervention and how Lori’s personal experience inspired her to help others. We also discuss her participation in the writing the foreword for the middle grade book, Jason’s Secret (link to review below).
Lori Melnitsky, MA CCC-SLP, has been an ASHA certified and NYS/NJ licensed speech/language pathologist for over 25 years and has helped hundreds of children, teens and adults in her diverse professional lifetime. She has witnessed preschoolers eliminate stuttering as well as older students and adults transform from stuttering to fluent and confident speakers. Lori is one of the only speech pathologists dually certified in stuttering, cluttering, and Prompt Therapy. She is also a published author in fluency journals.
Lori served as a consultant to the children’s television show Arthur for a special episode on stuttering. See the clip below!
She was featured in Newsday following the King’s Speech and was an honored guest at the premiere due to her expertise on the subject of stuttering. Lori stuttered severely up until her early 20’s. She could not participate in class, call friends on the phone or say her name. She turned her life around to help others and herself.

Jason’s Secret
Lori was honored to have written the forward for a book on stuttering called Jason’s Secret. Jason’s Secret written by Ellen Marie Silverman is a wonderful chapter book about a fifth grader named Jason. Jason struggles with his stuttering speech disorder in many ways including socially and academically. He is starting a new school and desperately wants to fit in. He wants to wear the right clothes and for his peers to know he is smart and great at chess. Will his classmates find out about his speech disorder of stuttering?
