One More Hug

One More Hug written by Megan Alexander and illustrated by Hiroe Nakata is a heartfelt and loving story about the bond between mother and child. I loved this book! The book begins with bedtime, playtime and then the first day of kindergarten! On that first day of kindergarten as the young boy gets on the bus, he asks his mom for “one more squeeze.” As the book progresses, the reader is taken through the lifetime of the child as he grows “bigger”, “wiser” and “stronger”. Until one day after he leaves as a young adult. When your child leaves to live independently, it can be bittersweet for parents. However, he still returns shortly after for “one more hug”. Physical affection with your loved ones is important at any age!

I love this book because it highlights the bond between parent and child throughout a lifetime. As a parent, I loved the progression of time in this book and the emphasis on despite great change, the love and affection between parent and child remains strong. This is a valuable lesson for children to learn. During this pandemic, we have to limit physical contact with others, which makes affection with your children even more important!

Megan is an Emmy nominated national news correspondent, author, speaker and actress. She can be seen every evening as a correspondent on the longest-running, top rated syndicated national news magazine television show INSIDE EDITION.
