My Sister’s Super Skills, Introducing Kid-Friendly Coping Skills
Lauren wrote My Sister’s Super Skills to introduce children to healthy social-emotional skills in a fun way! This interactive story teaches emotional awareness. It also shares various empowering skills with children by linking each skill with an animal behavior, which children can easily remember and act out. As a counselor for children, Lauren knows the importance of learning these invaluable tools at an early age to manage stress, grow self-esteem and assist in navigating today’s world!
My Sister’s Super Skills is not just a children’s book, it’s a helpful guide for parents in learning coping strategies. With the current COVID-19 pandemic, we are all anxious! With Lauren’s book, we can teach children easy to use strategies to help reduce anxiety and calm the body. She highlights specific strategies such as naming your feeling to begin the healing, repeat self affirmation and take deep breaths. Throughout the book are more embedded coping strategies that families, educators and children alike can use. What I personally loved about Lauren’s book is her focus on self care. In this current pandemic, it’s so hard to focus on self care as parents. We are taking care of our kids, cooking, cleaning, working and dealing with every day stresses. As a parent, reading Lauren’s book gave me reminders about practicing self care such as exercise, meditation, hygiene, etc.
