Interview with Picture Book Authors, Ashley Wheelock and Arwen Evans
We Toot! by Ashley Wheelock and Arwen Evans
I am thrilled to be interview authors and sisters Ashley Wheelock and Arwen Evans. We Toot! is both Ashley and Arwen’s debut picture book.
Ashley Wheelock is a writer and lawyer on the central coast of California. She loves book, especially children’s book, and began her book career as the then youngest editor-in-chief of her elementary school’s press. She dreams of marshmallows and witches.
Ashley is the author of a daily affirmations and positivity journal that is wonderful for young girls!
Arwen Evans is a PR executive. Her mission is to raise strong girls, which is important as she has three of them. She spends her commute embroidering elaborate gifts while dreaming up her next story.
We Toot!
We Toot! is about a young girl who breaks all norms and admits to farting in front of her friends! She is not embarrassed about it either! She states, “I swear it was me, fart all of the time. I’m not ashamed of this body of mine.” This book teaches little ones to embrace our bodies and its functions and view them as “wonders, each with its own quirks.” It’s a wonderful book for young children that can trigger conversation about many topics including social etiquette, body awareness, diversity and embracing our imperfections! As you are reading this book, focus on the different characters perspectives and how it changes throughout the book. As a parent share your own experiences and ask your child about their own!
Learn more about the book here! Also listen to their own song that is personalized for We Toot!
